As a member of the operations team, this role has the responsibility for the activities of the department, including timely receiving, picking and shipping of materials, completion of product batches and filling in accordance with GMP, HACCP and safety guidelines, working in cooperation with all other departments, promoting information exchange and teamwork within the department.    The general operative must contribute to the efficient and profitable operation of the plant and maintain a positive work atmosphere, by behaving and communicating in ways that foster good relationships with employees, co-workers and managers, while achieving performance standards.

  • Ensure a continuous and efficient outflow of work aligned to achieving the Plant performance to schedule in cooperation with the Operations Manager or delegate.
  • Manual work, which involves physical effort and fitness, must be able to lift 25 kg occasionally and work in a wet, noisy, fast paced environment.
  • Ensure that all incoming and outgoing material is labeled and transacted on the computerized system in a timely manner,
  • Ensure supply of raw materials, components and other products for production.
  • Check equipment availability and operational status.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained to front line asset care program and maintenance requests are logged on the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ensure orders are released in a timely manner and ensure orders are picked, for all materials required for manufacturing.
  • Review formulas, forms and special instructions for each day’s production to use in planning for the next workday.
  • Ensure that all materials are receipted, stored, manufactured, filled as per formula notes, tested, packed and labeled to comply with all best practice standards of the Company complying with e.g. quality requirements.
  • Ensure that each manufactured and filled batch is sampled and approved.
  • Participate in quality investigation on all non-conforming batches and complaints.
  • Any defects/malfunction/out of spec materials/equipment noted must be reported to the attention of management and the quality department.
  • Co-ordinate and review plant GMP/Hygiene standards in the areas, ensuring actions items are completed.
  • Ensure all material remnants are clean, sealed, verified, transacted, labeled correctly and transferred to the correct location.
  • Ensure all correct material segregation is adhered to in a timely manner e.g. products on hold, allergens.
  • Record and communicate all vendor shortage issues to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure orders are picked, labeled in a timely manner and material is prepared for shipment in compliance with Company standards.
  • Participate in review of hazards and safety or environmental incident investigations, follow-up and closeout in the area.
  • Ensure that all resources (people and equipment) are utilized to maximum efficiency when in use and report any equipment defects/breakdowns to maintenance personnel and your manager.
  • Ensure that all data relating to each system transaction is promptly and accurately recorded on the ERP system and other supporting systems and any deviations are promptly investigated, explained and actioned – e.g. issues and receipts, losses and yield variance reports.
  • Ensure that all area cycle counts for areas are completed as required by the Company. This includes count, investigation, and correction (where possible) and issue escalation (where necessary).
